I am doing two quickie posts tonight on food things Victoria and I have been up to this week. I meant to do more kid crafts and such but we have been pretty busy this week. We will be home this whole weekend so hopefully Victoria and I can get our craft on.
I used to buy taco seasoning packets for making Mexican dishes or chili, Simply Organic is our favorite one. A few weeks back I came across a post on how to make your own homemade taco seasoning and I told myself that as soon as I had used up our seasoning packets I would whip up a batch of that. I am so glad I took the time {10 mins tops} to make this. It is so yummy and the seasonings tasted really fresh. Victoria had a ball grinding up fresh pepper and sea salt for this. I love working in the kitchen with her, she makes me laugh and helps me out a ton. Its so much fun teaching her measuring and cooking all while laughing and listening to Taylor Swift on full bast {one of her favs. right now

Homemade Taco Seasoning
{Small changes were made to fit our family.}
Ingredients:
4 tablespoons of chili powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon dried oregano
2 teaspoons paprika
2 tablespoons ground cumin
2 teaspoons sea salt
4 teaspoons black pepper
We started by grinding up fresh pepper and sea salt and putting it in our bowl.
Next we added in the rest of the spices and then mixed with a spoon.
I am storing ours in a glass jar with a tight fitting lid.
On My Baking Addiction, it states to use 1 1/2 tablespoons per 1lb of meat. We used it last night for tacos and found that amount to be perfect for them.
I added a cute label with some ribbon to ours so I would know the measurements needed when cooking with it.
You can find the labels here:

I printed them on some scrap booking paper and then just hole punched them to add them to the ribbon.
We love this taco seasoning blend and plan on having it be our go to blend for Mexican dishes from now on. We are making chili this weekend and I am going to try this seasoning out with that to see how it tastes. The site I got it from says she uses it for chili in her house so I am hoping its just as yummy in chili as it was in our tacos.
